I know; and I agree he should never have considered lesson plans and all that. What's really bothering me is that people who had NO idea of the content of the speech castigated it long in advance. They'd never read it, had seen no advanced copies, nothing - they make what I call a "leap of intellect" without the intellect. That's happening more and more, and it's polarizing us more and more. People are rushing to judgment without checking the facts; people aren't looking for knowledge, they prefer to make quick assumptions instead.

Kathy,
I would say the 'fuss' comes from all the other things that the White House tried to pull outside of just the speech. When I did my research on the other facets of this issue, that's when I came out against this action by our President:

Hi Kathy,
I stumbled upon your post that has absolutely nothing to do with me and my endeavors. However, I found your post very uplifting. I think you are in the exact field you should be in...training in crisis. Thanks!

Hi Kathy -

Thanks for the link to my post on the PRSA's website. PR is going through sweeping changes...and I think you are right that PR professionals are much more aware of this fact than are other senior executives at this point.

One suggestion I have for communications teams is to do 'war gaming' exercises with a variety of examples of various positive and negative communications scenarios and detail out how they would operate and react to those situations. Running through extreme scenarios make teams a little more prepared for the more likely scenarios.

Cheers -

I agree with you 100%, and you are not the only one who has made a point of calling back and complaining about a charity worker being downright rude about the size or timing of a donation!

Well said!
